PACKERS INJURY REPORT: 3 SKILL PLAYERS QUESTIONABLE VS. EAGLES

Here’s the good news: The Green Bay Packers will have receiver Romeo Doubs (hand), linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (hip) and cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring) available versus the Philadelphia Eagles in their season opener in Brazil on Friday. The bad news? Running backs MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring), Emanuel Wilson (hip) and tight end Tucker Kraft (back) are all questionable going into the game.

Lloyd is dealing with an injury that he’s been nursing throughout the summer, while Wilson and Kraft’s injuries have been recent — with being a full participant as recently as Tuesday’s practice. Lloyd was a non-participant on Tuesday but was a limited participant for Thursday’s walkthrough.

Both running back and tight end are now major areas of concern. Running back AJ Dillon and tight end Tyler Davis were both placed on season-ending injured reserve at cutdowns. With Lloyd and Wilson injured, the only healthy running back on the 53-man roster is free-agent signing Josh Jacobs, who has yet to play a game for the Packers.

How serious is Green Bay taking the injuries to their backfield? Well, the team went out of their way to add a third running back to their practice squad the day before they flew out to Brazil. Don’t be surprised if one of the three practice squad running backs, Ellis Merriweather, La’Mical Perine and Chris Brooks is activated for this game. Merriweather is probably the favorite there, as he was the only one of the trio who was in Packers camp this summer.

Tight end is also thin. If Kraft is out of the picture, the squad will only have Luke Musgrave and Ben Sims on their 53-man roster at the position. Mind you, Green Bay played the third-most multiple tight end looks in the league last season, despite injuries to Musgrave, Kraft and Davis. They want to play several tight ends at a time and now only have two that are healthy.

To add to the matter, the Packers’ only practice squad tight end coming into the week, Messiah Swinson, was plucked by the Carolina Panthers’ 53-man roster, leaving Green Bay without other true tight end options. To supplement that body type, the team might have to call up fullback Andrew Beck, who is listed at 6’3” and 252 pounds, from the practice squad.

On the Eagles’ side of the injury report, Philadelphia will be out the two players who showed up on their injury report this week: cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (hand) and linebacker Devin White (ankle).
