TEXAS A&M’S JOHN SHARP: JIM SCHLOSSNAGLE DEPARTURE WAS ‘SHADY’, MICHAEL EARLEY IS ‘LOYAL’

Texas A&M has found its replacement for Jim Schlossnagle, making an internal hire of sorts. Michael Earley was originally slated to join the Texas staff but will instead become the next head coach in College Stations. Aggies are thrilled to have Earley stick with the program and keep the momentum rolling after a historic College World Series run.

While there is no denying the job Schlossnagle did with Texas A&M, Chancellor John Sharp believes they are better off without him. Sharp seemingly values loyalty above everything else. Not just to the school but also to players on the roster, keeping the gang together for another run in 2025.

“Considering the shady way this all happened & the final result, A&M got the far better part of this deal,” Sharp said via Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle. “A coach loyal to his players & school is worth his weight in gold.”

The “shady” aspect Sharp touches on is likely the timing of Schlossnagle’s move. Just hours after Texas A&M fell in the CWS Finals to Tennessee, he was announced as the replacement for David Pierce at Texas. Reports indicate the move was in the works dating back to late April and Schlossnagle knew he would be leaving throughout parts of the regular season and the entire postseason.

“One interesting note is that I was told by multiple sources today that this deal — at least at the highest level — was done between A&M’s series with Georgia and before the Regional round,” Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball said via X on June 26. “It’s truly a fascinating search/hire to unpack. I’ll have more.”

Based on Sharp’s comments, both sides will be happy with the end results.

Schlossnagle gets to reunite with Chris Del Conte in Austin, while Texas feels like they have one of the top coaches in college baseball heading into the SEC. Texas A&M seems thrilled with the loyalty Earley has shown by accepting the job and not leaving for the school’s bitter rival.

The SEC has already announced Texas and Texas A&M will play during the 2025 season. In fact, they will be permanent opponents of one another and matchup on an annual basis. Jim Schlossnagle and Michael Earley will have an enormous amount of pressure on their respective shoulders, needing to win head-to-head in the rivalry matchup moving forward.
